Mass Save Program FAQ

NHSaves Heat Pumps & Central Air Conditioners

This program offers rebates to customers who use energy-efficient air-source heat pumps, central air conditioners, and Wi-Fi thermostats. The rebates are available to Eversource, Liberty, and Unitil Electric customers, as well as New Hampshire Electric Cooperative members, who use a qualified heat pump, ENERGY STAR-certified central air conditioner, or Wi-Fi thermostat installed with a qualified heat pump. Other requirements include:

You must be a residential electric customer of a participating New Hampshire utility company.
The heat pump water heater needs to be installed within the service area of that same participating utility company.
The heater must meet the minimum efficiency standards set by the program.
The installation must take place between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
Remember to submit your rebate application (including required documents) by postmark no later than January 31, 2025.

The rebates offered are for a limited time and only available while funding lasts. The program terms are subject to change at any time. It's important to note that if you've already received equipment incentives for the same item through a different energy efficiency program offered by your electric company, you won't be eligible for this program's rebate.

NHSaves Natural Gas Heating

If you're a natural gas customer of Liberty or Unitil, you're in luck! There are currently rebates available to help you upgrade your heating system. These rebates can cover up to $1,500 for high-efficiency natural gas furnaces, boilers, heating controls, and even heat-recovery ventilators. But act fast, these rebates are only available while funding lasts. Eligible equipment includes:

High-efficiency natural gas furnace with ECM (Electronically Communicated Motor): This advanced furnace offers efficiency gains and potentially quieter operation.
Natural gas hot water boiler: This traditional boiler provides reliable hot water heating for your home.
Natural gas condensing boiler with on-demand hot water: This high-efficiency boiler delivers both space heating and hot water instantly as you need it.
Boiler reset controls (add-on unit for natural gas forced hot water boiler): This add-on unit optimizes your boiler's operation for improved efficiency.
Heat recovery ventilator: This innovative system recovers heat from outgoing air to preheat incoming fresh air, reducing energy consumption.

NHSaves Room Air Conditioners

New Hampshire residents can cool their homes for less with a rebate program for ENERGY STAR® certified room air conditioners. Here's what you need to know:

Qualifying AC Unit: Your room air conditioner must be ENERGY STAR® certified, meaning it meets strict energy efficiency standards.
Service Area: The air conditioner must be installed within the service territory of a participating New Hampshire utility company.
Customer Eligibility: You must be a residential electric customer of the same participating utility company.
Rebate Amount: The rebate won't exceed the original purchase price of your new room air conditioner.
Rebate Limit: There's a limit of two rebates per year per household.
New Units Only: Rebates are only valid for new, unused, and non-refurbished air conditioners.
No Combining Rebates: This rebate cannot be combined with other utility rebate offers for room air conditioners.
Purchase Window: You must purchase the qualifying AC unit between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
Limited-Time Offer: This program has limited funds and may change at any time.
Submission Deadline: Don't forget to submit your rebate application by January 31, 2025.

NHSaves Heat Pump Water Heaters

Heat pump water heaters are a game-changer in terms of energy efficiency. Unlike traditional electric water heaters that generate heat directly, heat pumps use electricity to cleverly move heat from one place to another. This innovative technology translates to significant energy savings, with the Department of Energy estimating them to be up to four times more efficient than conventional models. Their energy efficiency makes them eligible for rebates under the NHSaves program. To qualify for the heat pump water heater rebate:

Your heater must be ENERGY STAR® certified and meet minimum efficiency standards.
You need to be an electric customer of a participating New Hampshire utility company.
The purchase needs to be made between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. (This is a limited-time offer!)
Submit your rebate application (online or by mail) by January 31, 2025.
You cannot receive incentives for this heater from another program.

Finding a qualified heater:

Talk to a licensed contractor for recommendations on ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump water heaters.
Alternatively, visit the ENERGY STAR website to find a list of local installers.

NHSaves Natural Gas Water Heaters

Natural gas customers of Liberty and Unitil can save money on high-efficiency water heaters. Rebates of up to $700 are available, but only while funding lasts. Equipment eligible for this rebate:

Natural Gas Condensing Boiler with On-Demand Hot Water: This option provides both efficient space heating and hot water delivered instantly as you need it.
On-Demand Tankless Water Heater: This space-saving heater heats water only when you turn on the tap, eliminating standby energy loss.
Storage Water Heater (Available at Liberty only): This traditional heater stores hot water in a tank for continuous use but may not be as efficient as on-demand models.
Condensing Gas Water Heater (Available at Liberty only): This high-efficiency heater uses advanced technology to capture extra heat from exhaust, reducing energy costs.
Indirect Water Heater (Connected to a Natural Gas Boiler - Available at Liberty only): This system uses the heat from your boiler to heat water for your home, maximizing efficiency if you already have a natural gas boiler.

NHSaves Natural Gas Thermostats

NHSaves offers rebates when you buy and install a qualifying programmable or wireless thermostat for your home.

What are the purchase requirements?

How many rebates can I get?

If you want more than two rebates, you'll need pre-approval by contacting NHRebates@resource-innovations.com.

How do I claim the rebate?

Submit the rebate form within 60 days of purchase to NHSaves.
Allow 6-8 weeks for processing after they receive your application.
